Introduction:
We were observing southern right whales in Argentina for a week. Southern right whales were heavily targeted by whaling boats due to their slow moving, high oil content and the fact that they float when dead. They were the “right” whales to hunt. In the nineties they were classified as vulnerable on the IUCN red list. Thankfully due to protection, their overall numbers have increased and they are now listed as Least concern.
